September Song

“Life on the Chesapeake Bay is sweet in September. The weather is still warm, still  offering a friendly invitation for a walk, especially when the air is laced with a gentle breeze. At your feet, the water laps lazily, holding summer’s warmth long into fall.  Come walk and meditate on the beauty of coastal Virginia. Watch fishing boats skim past seagoing titans from ports far and wide.   Overhead, seagulls and pelicans dip and soar.  Every now and then, a duet of dolphins will put on a show.

“The old song says, “The days grow short when you reach September.”  Perhaps, but here, lingering in the soft watercolor scenes that change from sunrise to sunset, another thought occurs. Robert Frost said it. ‘Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length.’

Reflections of a resident.
